Sapling calculator per hectare.
Enter the orchard area, the planting scheme and the knip tree grade: the calculator returns the count rounded to the order step of 250, the cost from the 9 October 2026 price list and a check against the minimum lot.
An orchard of 3 ha planted at 3.5 × 1.0 m needs 8,750 apple saplings on M9 rootstock, and at the Sady Stavropolya nursery a grade 3+ lot costs RUB 3,500,000 on the 9 October 2026 price list. The calculator below handles any other area, scheme and grade, rounds the count up to the order step of 250 and compares it with the minimum lot of 6,000 saplings.

What the calculator does and where prices come from
The calculator divides a hectare by the area of one tree, multiplies by the orchard area and rounds up to the order step of 250 saplings. The price per sapling comes from the current price list of 9 October 2026, so when the stock is updated the result changes without editing the page.
- Orchard area in hectares: a whole number or a decimal, for example 3 or 2.5.
- Crop: apple on M9 rootstock or sweet cherry on Gisela 5 and Gisela 6.
- Knip apple tree grade: 1+, 3+ or 5+. Sweet cherry has a single price, so it has no grade.
- Planting scheme: row spacing and in-row spacing in metres; common schemes have ready buttons.
The result card has five lines: the saplings to order, the cost of the lot including VAT, the density per hectare, the number of trees for the whole area and the price per sapling. A note on the minimum lot follows: the figure either reaches it or shows how many saplings are missing and how many hectares a lot of 6,000 covers. The button under the result copies the data into the quote form on the same page.
How many hectares a lot of 6,000 saplings covers
The nursery’s minimum lot is 6,000 saplings, and for a small plot it can exceed the need. How many hectares such a lot covers depends on the scheme: the denser the planting, the less area the same 6,000 trees need.
| Crop and scheme, m | Trees per hectare | Hectares per lot |
|---|---|---|
| Apple 3.0 × 0.9 | 3,704 | 1.6 |
| Apple 3.5 × 0.8 | 3,571 | 1.7 |
| Apple 3.0 × 1.0 | 3,333 | 1.8 |
| Apple 3.5 × 1.0 | 2,857 | 2.1 |
| Apple 3.5 × 1.2 | 2,381 | 2.5 |
| Apple 4.0 × 1.2 | 2,083 | 2.9 |
| Sweet cherry 4.0 × 2.0 | 1,250 | 4.8 |
| Sweet cherry 4.5 × 2.0 | 1,111 | 5.4 |
| Sweet cherry 4.0 × 2.5 | 1,000 | 6.0 |
If the result is below 6,000 saplings, the calculator shows how many are missing from the minimum lot. A lot can combine several cultivars and grades in steps of 250 saplings per cultivar; stock for each cultivar is on the sapling prices page.
Worked example for a 3-hectare orchard
The 3.5 × 1.0 m scheme gives 2,857 trees per hectare and 8,572 trees on 3 ha. Rounding up to the step of 250 turns that into 8,750 saplings, which is 35 steps of 250. The cost of the lot depends on the knip tree grade.
| Grade | Price per sapling | Cost of the lot |
|---|---|---|
| 1+ | RUB 360 | RUB 3,150,000 |
| 3+ | RUB 400 | RUB 3,500,000 |
| 5+ | RUB 450 | RUB 3,937,500 |
For a grade 3+ lot of RUB 3,500,000 the payment on signing the contract is 30%, which is RUB 1,050,000, and the balance of RUB 2,450,000 is due 10 days before pickup. How the grades differ in branches per crown is explained on the knip apple trees page.
The sweet cherry calculation on Gisela
Sweet cherry is planted more sparsely than apple, so a hectare needs noticeably fewer saplings, and the price is the same for every cultivar: RUB 800 including VAT on 9 October 2026. At 4.0 × 2.0 m a hectare holds 1,250 trees, the step of 250 divides that number evenly, and one hectare costs RUB 1,000,000.
A minimum lot of 6,000 sweet cherry saplings covers 4.8 ha at the same scheme and costs RUB 4,800,000. Cultivars in stock include Lapins and Summit; the full list is on the sweet cherry saplings page. The choice between rootstocks is covered in Gisela 5 or Gisela 6.
What the calculation leaves out
The calculator works out the geometry of the orchard: it adds no reserve for replanting and subtracts no headlands for machinery. Both corrections are covered in how many saplings per hectare, and you enter the final figure in the request yourself.
The order step of 250 saplings applies to each cultivar separately. When a lot has several cultivars, each one is rounded up to its own 250, so the total can slightly exceed the calculator result. Stock by grade for a single cultivar is shown, for example, on the Royal Gala page.
Cultivars are chosen for the regional climate and the lifting window: October–November 2026 or March–April 2027. Zone recommendations are collected in the supply by region section, for example Krasnodar Krai and Rostov Oblast. The whole M9 apple range is on the apple saplings page.
Pass the calculation to the trade desk
State the cultivars, grades and the lifting window you want: the trade desk checks stock for each cultivar and prepares an invoice for the lot.
What buyers ask first.
How many apple saplings do I need per hectare?
At 3.5 × 1.0 m a hectare holds 2,857 trees, at 3.0 × 0.9 m it holds 3,704 and at 4.0 × 1.2 m it holds 2,083. The calculator rounds the count up to the order step of 250, so a hectare at 3.5 × 1.0 m becomes 3,000 saplings.How much do saplings for a hectare cost?
A hectare at 3.5 × 1.0 m needs 3,000 knip apple trees: RUB 1,080,000 in grade 1+, RUB 1,200,000 in grade 3+ and RUB 1,350,000 in grade 5+ on the 9 October 2026 price list. Prices include VAT.Is one hectare enough for the minimum lot?
For apple on M9 a lot of 6,000 saplings matches 1.6 to 2.9 ha depending on the scheme. If the result is below 6,000 saplings, the calculator shows how many are missing from the minimum lot.Does the calculator include a reserve for replanting?
No. The calculator counts exactly the trees that fit the chosen scheme and rounds up to the step of 250. You add the replanting reserve and the headlands to the result yourself.Which price does the calculation use?
The price per sapling from the 9 October 2026 price list including VAT: apple RUB 360, 400 and 450 in grades 1+, 3+ and 5+, sweet cherry RUB 800. Saplings are picked up from the yard in Sunzha, Stavropol Krai. How do I send the calculation to the trade desk?
Press the button under the result: the quote form on this page fills in the crop, the quantity and a comment with the calculation parameters. You then add your contact details and send the request.
