Samba: breeding and name
Samba was bred at Summerland (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada): selection 2S-84-10 was crossed with Stella in 1978 and the cultivar was published in 1996, 18 years after the cross. In Europe the cultivar is registered as Sumste, while the website and the price list call it Samba. The same Summerland station bred Lapins and Summit, which are also in the catalog.

Fruit: size and resistance to cracking
Samba fruit is large to very large: 29–31 mm across and 12–14 g. The flesh is medium-firm to firm, and sensitivity to cracking is low to medium. Samba ripens early to mid-season, that is before late Lapins.
Pollination: a pollinizer is required
Samba is self-sterile: it belongs to incompatibility group 2 (S1S3 genotype). Without a pollinizer no fruit set takes place.
The trade desk will help match a pollinizer to your block: write to the sales team. General principles of pollinizer selection are covered in the article Kordia, Regina and pollinizers.
Samba is on Gisela 6 only

Samba alone cannot fill a 6,000-sapling lot: the stock is half of that. It is added to cultivars with larger stock, for example Ferrovia.
