Apple orchards of Stavropol Krai
Stavropol Krai gives about 3% of the Russian apple, pear and quince harvest of 2023 and stands sixth in the Rosselkhozbank rating. In 2025 the krai’s orchards picked 71.8 thousand t of apples against 85.3 thousand t in 2024, and the 16% drop followed frosts. The Georgievsky, Kochubeevsky and Trunovsky districts supply most of the volume.
Fruit and berry plantings in the krai covered 11.5 thousand ha in 2024, of which 9.2 thousand ha were fruiting and 2.3 thousand ha young. About 850 ha were laid that year, and super-intensive orchards make up roughly half the area. Super-intensive apple orchards covered 10 ha in 2017 and 434 ha by 2020. For such schemes the nursery grows knip apple trees on the M9 rootstock.
State support for horticulture in 2026
On 30 January 2026 the press service of the krai’s agriculture ministry reported that, after a competitive selection, growers will receive over RUB 528 m (RUB 528.4 m) from federal and regional budgets. The money is meant for laying 250 ha of orchards, care of 1,680 ha and 120 ha of nurseries.
Under the federal rules the laying subsidy is paid per hectare and covers a trellis and anti-hail netting among other costs, while care is subsidised until fruiting begins, for intensive orchards no longer than three years from the year of laying. The Ministry of Agriculture of Stavropol Krai sets the rates, deadlines and selection terms, so check them there and in the text of Government Decree No. 1722 on pravo.gov.ru before signing a contract. The nursery does not promise the outcome of an application.
Climate and hail protection
The Stavropol weather station stands on high ground, not in the orchard districts, and records a January mean of minus 2.3 °C, a record minimum of minus 28.3 °C and 556 mm of precipitation a year (1981–2010). Stavropol is roughly zone 6b–7, and that range lies inside the ranges of every cultivar in our stock.
The krai’s hail-suppression service protects 839 thousand ha of fields in five districts (Kirovsky, Predgorny, Andropovsky, Kochubeevsky and Shpakovsky). Hail causes about 60% of weather damage to the krai’s crops. In 2021, 23 farms received RUB 483 m of subsidies that covered a trellis and anti-hail netting among other costs.
