Fourth place by harvest and new orchards
In the Rosselkhozbank ranking Dagestan holds fourth place among regions by harvest of apples, pears and quince, about 4% of the Russian harvest of 2023. In 2025 the republic laid 520.5 ha of orchards, and fruit was picked from 23.9 thousand ha.
Since the start of 2026, 432 ha have been laid, 232 ha of them intensive and 200 ha super-intensive orchards, and at least 500 ha are planned for autumn.
Mountain districts and an orchard above 1,000 m
In the mountain and valley zone, 77.9 ha of intensive and super-intensive orchards were laid in 2025, 4.5 times more than a year earlier, of them 52 ha in the Akhtynsky district, 12.9 ha in Rutulsky, 8 ha in Botlikhsky and 5 ha in Gunibsky. In May 2025 the first super-intensive orchard in Russia above 1,000 m was laid in Akhty, and 200 ha are planned in the Akhtynsky district.
The Derbent lowland and a zone of about 7
The Derbent station records 405.8 mm of precipitation a year, a January mean of +3.0 °C and an absolute minimum of −19 °C, while the northern districts of the republic, Khasavyurt for example, are more continental.
Makhachkala sits at roughly zone 7 on the caudex.ru list, and the ranges Z4–Z8, Z5–Z8 and Z6–Z9 of the matched cultivars cover that zone. In the Derbent district 173 ha were laid in 2020, out of about 690 ha of the republic’s intensive orchards.

Sweet cherry and drip irrigation
In the Derbent district drip irrigation was fitted in 2021 for 27 ha of stone-fruit orchards, with a reservoir of more than 7,000 m³ and a pump station built for it. Gisela 5 needs regular irrigation, Gisela 6 stands heat less well, and both rootstocks are described on the rootstocks for cherry page.
Samba was bred at Summerland in Canada, Ferrovia comes from Apulia, and Sweet Lorenz was created at the University of Bologna. Apart from Lapins, the other four cultivars are not self-fertile, so we will pick pollinizers for the block together with you.
